Kline and Ryun Unmasked: Linked to Ku Klux Klan
Traditional Republicans Demand Answers
TOPEKA – Traditional Republicans demand that Phill Kline and Jim Ryun explain their
association with Family Research Council Action (FRCA) whose executive director
Tony Perkins has ties to the Ku Klux Klan and other white-supremacist organizations.
“This disgusts me,” said Kansas Traditional Republican Majority Executive Director
Ryan Wright. “Kline and Ryun are cut from the same cloth; they owe it to voters to
prove that they do not share these racist beliefs. Ryun and Kline must explain their
association with the Family Research Council.”
FRCA endorsed Jim Ryun for Congress in KS-02 calling him, “a true friend.” Phill
Kline appeared at FRCA’s “Blogs for Life 2008 Conference” at the FRCA headquarters
in Washington, D.C. in January of 2008.
In 1996, Perkins-while working on a Louisiana senate campaign-authorized the
payment of $82,000 to former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke for his mailing list.
The Federal Election Commission later fined the Perkins-run campaign $3,000 for
attempting to hide the money paid to Duke.
In 2006, Perkins addressed the Council of Conservative Citizens (formerly the antiintegration White Citizens Council). The group was well known for opposing racial
integration of the South and “protecting European-American” heritage from other
ethnicities.
David Duke has been known to say such outlandish things as, “The Jews are trying to
destroy all other cultures – as a survival mechanism – the only Nazi country in the world
is Israel.” Along with, “Our clear goal must be the advancement of the white race and
separation of the white and black races.”
“Voters must have the facts before casting their ballots on Tuesday,” Wright said.
“Having individuals close to their campaign who share these anti-Semitic, racist
sentiments should give every Kansan reason to pause.”
The Primary Election will be held on August 5, 2008.
